Joseph Roux – a hydrographer from Marseille, map publisher, manufacturer of navigating instruments. King of France granted him permission to be called “Hidrographe du Roy”.

In 1764 Joseph Roux published a series of 12 charts of the Mediterranean; he simultaneously published atlas of Mediterranean harbor charts. There are several editions of this atlas, containing different number of maps. Our edition consists of 120 plates.

    This web site is incorrect. Joseph Roux the hydrographer of Marseille is a completely different person from the Joseph Roux, a priest responsible for this and many other quotations. The hydrographer lived in the 18th century and the priest lived in the following century.
