More blackouts in Cape Town

4 Comments 16 January 2006

Rolling blackouts could become an ongoing feature of life in the Western Cape should both units at the nuclear power station at Koeberg shut down.

This system of “load shed” (intermittent cuts at peak times, rotating between different areas) will be considered as one of many scenarios at a series of meetings on Monday between Eskom, maintenance personnel and turbine technicians who have flown in from France.

Got that straight off my IOL news feed. You are able to read the full story about the Western Cape to expect more power outages here.

Even though the servers have backup generators (UPS), 99% uptime and are located in Cape Town, Germany and the US. This blog or site1, site2 or any of the sites I am addicted to will not go down. I’ve just made an extra backup of the database and am FTP’ing all files straight from Firefox as I type this, just incase anyways. All the sites are backed up daily by the hosts & weekly by myself incase you were wondering.

A day without electricity equals a day without work or working as long as your notebooks battery lasts. You are still able to remain in contact with your cell (mobile) phone and MXit instant messaging :)

Now let me get some work done before the power goes out!
