Undercover PageRank update

View Comments 06 April 2006

It’s 3:12am and I’m getting reeady for bed. Miguel please have Coffee Anan ready when I get to the office later. He lives next door to our office, the hotspot reaches his room. I hope you’re reading this.

I have noticed something wierd. Google has been updating PageRank again. Not in the usual 3 month interval (guesstimate). I thought their was something funny with the searchstatus extension, even contacted the devlopers to report a bug.

Pretty stoked:

  • The (less than one month old) Standards Compliant Web Design site now has a PR of 4 :) Raoul should be smiling. See, standards are important.
  • The site we’ve indexed before going live has a pagerank varying between 4 (create an account) and 2 (one of the few other pages). We’re going live with this pretty soon.
  • My friend in The Cape Town Property game has gone from zero to four. Maybe the tip I gave her helped?
  • All the categories of this blog, excluding the copy/pasted Sayings category has a PR of 4.

When did the PageRank update happen?

My guess is that the Big G has updated the PageRank of all pages created before Sunday, March 12th, 2006 when I posted a little bit about the New MXit from an internet cafe in Jozi. Cannot be to sure about this because the next post upon my return from Jozi or any other post after Tuesday, March 14th, 2006 has no PR.

Could anyone who posted to their blog or published any webpage on 13 March 2006 let me know if your page has any PR. Why did I not post anything on the 13th of March 2006? The answer is simple: It was my girlfriend’s birthday. Yes, I am a Web AddiCT, but some things are more important than the World Wide Web, coffee or not being stuck in traffic.

I was wondering why the unique daily visitors have doubled this week. Maybe that is the answer to the question? Being at four is fantastic. I’d like to be responsible(or partly) for a site that surpasses five.

Thank you, dankie, enkosi, shukran for our mention on GeekSpin’s blog. Next time, use trackback to lets us know you’re linking please. You say we ask all the right questions, well here’s another: Could we be seeing a more frequent Google Pagerank Update from now on?

I hear you, I forget the trackbacks 50% of the time (I’m so not l33t :) ) .. it often still autodiscovers the trackbacks, but not always (hmm?!?) ….

On the pagerank thing, I also missed the 13th but I also don’t get a pagerank for any of the newer stuff .. wierd.

I see you have the rel=”trackback” so it really should have autodiscovered. Right? Worked with the municator piece I wrote earlier in the week..

I checked my blog, and Im not sure about the 13 March thing. My blog got PR5 (has been for a while), and most pages I checked = PR4… before and after the 13th.

I don’t use alot of trackbacks to my posts, only now and then. I’m guessing the posts that are in my archive are probably dead = no PR – as I’ve got no archive page or anything! (but the new design will!)

  4. Jono Craig says:

I have a very good use for Google PageRank: it shows me those who really know SEO and those desperately trying to figure it all out. If you’re waiting each month for a Google dance or even worse praying for PR 5 you’ve got a lot to learn, lol.
