Ruby-on-Rails Web Hosting in South Africa

5 Comments 18 April 2006

It’s fine to test things on US-based rubyonrails (RoR) web hosting servers. Bandwidth is as cheap as sand in the Sahara (not the cricket stadiums).

We’re in search of South African based Ruby-on-Rails web hosts. If you are a South African rubyonrails web host or know a Company that can host Ruby on Rails in South Africa (with support) please post a comment with a link or contact details. Mark & Rob are you able to assist?
Thanks a million.

Ok, I am currently speaking to some people. Since I can’t find a server either, it’s obviously time to set one up. Will let you know of any updates.

We have been researching this for a while, and are busy readying the first production server. Are you interested in testing. Speak to Mark at RSAWeb for more info: 021-4626798.

Thanks Rob – Chatted to Mark about this, still waiting for an email. I think he’s kinda busy with you being Out-of-office.

Actually I still cannot believe how long things take to catchup here. Charl and I have been looking for an RoR hosting service locally as well and it seems to be the one thing you cannot get. Just the same way it is hard to get good PHP/Java/LAMP developers, or good developers at all. Go figure how it hard it will be to recruit anyone who actually knows RoR. Anyways, I am checking the RSAWeb hosting service at the moment.

The one thing I am worried about is not only being able to host it but being able to host it and have access to reliable service.

Well we’ll see how it goes.

    Cheers!

    Jean-Paul H.

TYFYC Jean-Paul. i’ve email RSAweb on a few times & they never responded to my email. When I IM’ed one of the owners of RSAweb they were investigating RoR hosting but have not heard anything since then.
