Vodacare? Bring on number portability

4 Comments 30 August 2006

I’ve been without the Nokia N-series for exactly 15 days, having to turn to old-faithfull Nokia 6100 I knew i would not have a problem checking my mail or doing any e-banking, thanks to Opera Mini, the mobile web browser for any old cell(mobile) phone that supports java.

You’ll need Java on your PC if you want to run MXit on your computer, java is a standard on most cellular/mobile phones.

Over the past couple of days I’ve been crippled without access to the web via my phone. Why? After calling the Vodacom Customer care 082111 number, following all the ‘you call is important to us’ voice prompts and finally speaking to a real human.

I’m sorry Sir, it’s month-end and due to the large amount of users trying to recharge, access the web & chat on MXit on their phones the Vodacom system cannot handle all of the requests. We are working on the problem ….

Why is this our (the vodacom consumers) problem in the first place?

Enroute to our office in the suburbs, old faithfull beeps…

GOOD DAY, ID LIKE TO INFORM YOU THAT YOUR PHONE IS READY FOR COLLECTION AT VODACARE CANAL WALK. FOR MORE INFORMATION CALL….

Perfect, its 9:15, a quick stop at cANAL walk. Won’t even have to pay for parking.

Get to the store and they only open @ 10am, could the sms not have said that? Lower-case text messaging would even have been better, making the message much easier to read. Call the number as per SMS and the guys/gals already in the store, who I greet through a closed glass door, answer & put me on hold. Hold, Hold, Hold and they cut the call. Great customer service :)

I call them again as a gentleman lets me into the store at 9:25am.

I’m sorry Sir, our systems are offline, we’ll only be able to assist you after 10am.

I understand that but recall when taking the extension of my arm/office to them in the first place having to complete a Vodacare Cellphone Repair Form as their system was offline then too (16 August 2006), the store was open though.
I love my phone number, not my service provider, bring on number protability.

Have you read these yet?
