Goodbye tiny mobile phone screens, hello PicoP

7 Comments 06 January 2007

Wow! that’s all I can say. I just read an article on Softpedia about Microvision, who has developed “an ultra-thin, miniature full-color projection display that is small enough to be embedded in portable hand-held devices including mobile phones”, the Pico Projector or “PicoP” as they’ve named it, which they’re going to unveil and demonstrate at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas tomorrow.

Microvision Pico Projector (PicoP)

This solves a real limitation for mobile phones, with so many applications and services freely available on the internet mobile phones are hard pressed to take full advantage of them.

(x)html and javascript support is already available on most of the todays newer phones, internet access on mobiles have been around for quite some time and is getting better and better and then there are phones that have full QWERTY keyboards and if not you can get add-on keyboards.

Although this will not negate the need for laptops for the more power users, but it will prove popular amongst the mobile office crowd.

Have you read these yet?

not really good bye to the mobile screens… who really wants to project their private sms’s onto a nice big wall for everyone to see?

  • Miguel dos Santos

:) maybe not. It definitely won’t be an all or nothing thing. good for presentations and cell phone operations that are not private or are in the privacy of our home or office.

no true, its an awesome portable projector.. but the title “Goodbye tiny mobile phone screens, hello PicoP” make it sund as if this is a replacement for screens.

Mayhaps PicoP will not replace mobile screens but roll-out screens on cell phones could.

Wow! That is just insanely cool!

Now would not this just be super awesome in something like an Apple iPod! :D

However I am concerned about the battery consumption of something like this. Would it not just suck the battery dry within minutes?

  • Miguel dos Santos

Ja, I hope on the battery power consumption won’t be too hectic, that would really suck.
