I remember seeing a presentation on TED, a while back, from Jeff Han, unveiling the awesome multi-touch interface. And I remember thinking, wow! That sh*t is amazing. Ah, but alas, it will probably take forever to hit the consumer market.
Looks like I was wrong. I found today on Read/Write Web, Microsoft just announced it’s new multi-touch computing product, called Surface.

And by the looks of the video clips on Microsoft’s Surface Website, it’s going to be brilliant.
Now bring on the competitors, so I can afford it
Update: Found a link to Gizmodo that interviews Bill Gates where he shows off Surface. Neato.

hey, well you’ll be glad to know that you can build your own for less than ZAR 2000. I have. check my site for information or contact me for more info. Also check nuigroup(dot)com for open source multi-touch developments
Oh awesome stuff man. I’ve had a look at how to do it yourself a while back, and thought it would be a cool project to work on. However, I wasn’t happy with the OS software that was available for multi-touch. I’d be spending a lot of time, effort and money to build the hardware, but then I’d be stuck using a regular OS, meaning I couldn’t even use the multi-touch aspect to a fraction of it’s potential.
How is a open source software for multi-touch looking at the moment? I haven’t checked recently
Yeah, that’s true OS integration is still a working project. We have a guy working on a shell for Vista, but otherwise not really anyone integrating it with the OS. We are, however, working on a lot of frameworks to make your own programs that utilize multi-touch.
