What else can we clone and evolve? 4 Examples

4 Comments 02 September 2007

There’s been some conversation lately about cloning or copying ideas, whether Muti copied Digg, or Afrigator copied Amatomu which copied Technorati, or Thought Leader copied Wibble, who cares?

Anyway, so I was thinking what else could we “copy”, evolve and add to it, a little South African flavour? Here are some of my thought’s. (Excuse the crappy made up names :) )

Cambrian House – Share Ideas, vote on them, pit them up against each other and gather people to help you build your ideas into a business.

  • Proposed South African Version – Ubuntu House

Crowdspirit – Collaborate to identify problems with current electronics, brainstorm, vote and define solutions and bring these solutions to market.

  • Proposed South African Version – Afrilectric

Twitter – Micro Blogging (for the African Community?)

  • Proposed South African Version – Skindr

DesignMyRoom – Collaborative Interior Design and Fashion

  • Proposed South African Version – DesignFlava

OK, the names could do with some work, but the .co.za domains for them are available :)

Or, someone could just create a site that allows people to download direct clones of existing websites, which you can re-theme. Call it Cloner. What do you think?

Have you read these yet?

Amatomu, muti, wibble, TL – offcourse these sites are all clones.. no question

But you right, who cares..? Its great to have our own versions than to compete with foreigns sites on foreign media sharing entities.

Thanks. Any thought’s on my idea’s for other things South Africa can copy off of overseas versions of popular websites? Do they exist even, and I don’t know about them?
