Muti idea for twitter, inspired by Jacob Zuma

View Comments 19 December 2007

While Jacob Zuma became president of South Africa’s ruling party, the ANC, twittering with Yeigo on my mobile Your Web AddiCT was.

@unodewaal hope they are, they sh0uld add the muti link to the twitter posts too @charlvn @daveduarte

First thing after the announcement was to take a Jacob Zuma shower. Can you guess what I was singing? Upon my return to the wwworld this email from Charl van Niekerk read…

howzit man!

the reason there’s no links in the twitter feed is because we can’t
delete messages out of the stream so once we have spam we can’t delete
those items – we don’t want to give the spammers the benefit of
linking to their site :)

cheers,
charl

Ok sure but how about adding a link to the muti page with that particular submission?

So when the following Jacob Zuma muti submissions came in they’d read:
muti: Listen to Jacob Zuma singing “Bring me my machine gun” http://muti.co.za/comments?sbid=13874
muti: News in Photos: That’s president Zuma to you http://muti.co.za/comments?sbid=13876
muti: Video of Jacob Zuma becoming new ANC president, and Mbeki leaving the stage http://muti.co.za/comments?sbid=13853

That way the only link love you’ll be sending out would be to muti and not the spamming types. Could work for Muti RSS feeds too.

PS: You are able to destroy/delete your tweets.

  1. Chris M says:

Thanks for the Yeigo mention Rafiq!

  2. Sounds like a brilliant plan! Will take this up with the guys and see what we can do… :)

  3. @Chris M – If MXit didn’t block everything but Gmail I would have probably mentioned that. Only reason I started using Yeigo has been to keep my twitter account running in order to receive tweets for terms I’m tracking.

    @Charl van Niekerk – sweet

  4. Hi Rafiq

Thanks for another great post and suggestion. We have it on the cards to add urls, probably via a shortened url as you suggest.

The twitter delete feature is often unreliable, unfortunately so we cannot risk spreading spam that way.

    Regards

    N

  5. Many thanks to Neville for sorting this issue out! Really cool!
