MXit has had issues because they’re on a new core, I highly doubt Vodacom would take that route.

Tyler, what bothers me is who told her what she was told…

    LIES LIES LIES!
MXit’s new core upgrade brought about a bunch of bugs, Some pretty serious ones, thats why it hasn’t been logging in, Mxit is simply a mobile IM program, nothing illegal bout it. rumors have speculated like this before. its all Lies.

Heres My post In their Froum concerning the situation.

    100% Untrue.

Sounds a bit like net neutrality is not exactly an issue for Vodacom.

    Greetings,

Lets clear this up as this rumour does do its rounds from time to time.

Over the weekend (12th 13th & 14th April) MXit users would have experienced frustration mainly due to us upgrading from our old software core to the new software core.
This resulting in failed logins, unable to register and many many other issues.

As to Vodacom or any other Network Provider blocking MXit, this is untrue!
The network does not block or delete MXit in any way!

However, should your Vodacom number have the Vodacom’s Adult Content Manager enabled (ACM) then there is a strong possibility that you won’t be able to download MXit from http://www.mxit.com/wap since Vodacom categorize MXit as 18 plus! (This is due to the Dating Game and Chat Zones), but you will be able to login though should you already have MXit on your phone.

Hope this puts your minds at ease?

    Regards,

It’s been a while since anyone asked me about MXit being shutdown. I always tell them the company is not doing anything illegal. And even though Vodacom and MTN have launched their own MXit clones, they are nowhere close to the adoption of levels of MXit. And I seriously doubt MEEP or The Grid will ever challenge the MXit market share.

theres many ways you can do this. most of them actually end up rendering the phone unable to access the internet.

    1. remove the internet settings from the phone (he/she can just download it again)

    2. Have internet disabled on the actual phone number by calling the respective network’s call centre (this will only disable internet on that specific simcard/phone number, the phone will still work and he/she can call the network operator again to have it enabled unless you register the line in your name and demand that only you can authorise changes)

    3. This is a bit more technical, but have the network operator disable or block the port(s) which mxit uses on the cellphone to send and receive data. This will not be done instantly, or may not be done at all as some administrative overhead will come into play – this will disable mxit from working on that simcard, or even probably the phone. you can even try by taking the phone into a Vodashop, MTN store, Cell C or Virgin store and asking them to program the phone so that mxit wont work – this being done will result in the phone itself not being able to work with mxit regardless of the sim cards you put into it.

    4. This is the simplist one… get the kid a phone without GPRS, 3G or HSDPA since mxit uses these comms methods to operate. a nice R200 phone will do :-) find out in store before buying the phone what internet connectivity it provides, GPRS being the oldest and most obsolete of the above mentioned technologies will still allow mxit to work since this was the only technology around in SA when mxit was ‘born’ which was capable of delivering its data transmission requirements
