Watch youtube videos on your Mobile Phone.

View Comments 06 May 2008

I don’t know if you aware of it by now , but Youtube has made it officially possible for (us) – the public to be able to watch youtube videos on our mobile devices.

i think that this is really awesome , as it’s an indication of many more things to come, because it’s going to shape the mobile industry on a whole new level. I don’t wanna make any predictions for now, however, i think that this will truly give a new meaning to the way videos are distributed on mobile devices and it might just create new a new platform and open-up new markets for some interesting business models. (Watch this space).

okay, don’t get too excited just yet, because— this feature is currently limited to certain phones ONLY!

Among the supported devices are the Nokia’s N73, E51, E61, E61i, E65, N95, 6120c, 6110n and Sony Ericsson’s k800i and w880i. What about the rest of us? Well, it’s time to get an upgrade really quickly.

you can download the application if you’ve got the supported device here or, simply go to m.youtube.com

Now, does this come as bad news for our local liv.tv ? im curious and Also, how much will our “greedy” local cellular providers are awaiting to charge us on streaming and downloading of videos on our devices.

Downloaded the java app to my 6110 nav. Interface has a real nice polished look to it but when I tried to watch a video I had a connection error on realplayer’s streaming settings. Did anyone else have this problem?

    Hey Rafiq,

In fact it’s good news for us. We embrace YouTube’s mobile efforts as it shows us we’re on the right path. Particularly with the new features we’re working on.

  3. Thurnie says:

Amabacha you right, realplayer gives an connection error, stating that you need to specify an entry path.

Gud idea i guess, but not working as it should, maybe the South African networks needs to beef up its technology a wee bit!

The java app is pretty decent, however, you could also try the wapsite – it’s extremely well designed. Give the wapsite a go as well.

All in all, I feel this is far superior to liv.tv, however, it could be a great benchmark for liv.tv – I think they should consider taking into consideration the design style of this youtube initiative and do some good marketing around it in the SA market, before Google do it.
