South Africa Xenophobia Attacks on Google Maps – unitedforafrica.co.za

1 Comment 24 May 2008

With Google Earth South Africa and the Xenophobic attacks hitting the top of almost every news source, it’s been on our minds all the time.

So Your Web AddiCT had an idea worth spreading on how we could morph a project(#9) to help solve a local problem. Chatted to some QuirkStars and TED fellows who I am fortunate to wwwork with and usually stay connected with on twitter.

Many Skype chats later unitedforafrica was born. Mashing up the South African Xenophobia Attacks on Google Maps.

Check out http://www.geomarketingafrica.com. We do this type of mapping for business (not of xenophobia – of emerging market stores, census data etc.). The plotting and insight capabilities are amazing.

There are a lot of ideas linked to this (check out crime mapping in USA).
