Shopping online in South Africa? Did you know there are over 200 online stores you can choose from? Who has time to pop around to all of them to compare prices? Say Hello Jump Shopping, an online shopping search engine. A what ? Jump shopping is not an online shopping store but a comparative shopping search engine. We’ve mentioned Jump before when they brought us the first ever South African eCommerce awards last year.
My headphones went bust while wwworking and so I poked round on Jump Shopping and found these really awesome Bose headphones. The Bose Headphones were delivered on time with online tracking from the courier company which i thought was pretty cool.
At the same time as my old headphones died I happened to be tweeting for advertisers and Albert Bredenhann (Managing Director of Jump Shopping) happened to be listening and immediately responded.
We got chatting about the Social Web, Online Shopping, South African attitude towards shopping online and using their credit cards.
He pointed out a few interesting new features that allow users to engage with the Jump Shopping’s Digital Asset. In English that’d be the Jump Shopping website. In my usual Web AddiCT routine, if i like, I add to muti. And sub-muti’d the Jump Online Shopping Game and the Face of Jump Shopping Competition pages here and here.
An hour later, Albert contacted me again and said that he had ordered the Bose headphones for me
More free stuff from blogging, sweet.
So, with that, we welcome our newest sponsor/advertiser/friend of Your Web AddiCT(s);
Apparently the stats in the video that explains Jump Shopping is just like the music used in it: a bit outdated. Let’s wait for Albert to give us the latest stats…

- Yes, the video is a bit old and you can be glad I did not use Modern Talking music for the video.
Here are some updated stats with regards to online shopping in South Africa and specifically to Jump Shopping.
- There are approximately 1000 online stores in South Africa.
- Approx 200 stores joined Jump Shopping over the last 2 years.
- Jump.co.za currently has about 225,000 unique visitors per month (Google Analytics)
- Jump currently supply information to MWEB Shopping (www.mwebshopping.co.za), IOL Shopping (www.iolshopping.co.za), MYADSL Shopping (http://shopping.mybroadband.co.za) and Online Shopping (www.onlineshopping.co.za)
This video was actually created for all online merchants in South Africa in order to get more merchants to join Jump.
Thanks again Rafiq
This certainly sounds like an interesting site but sadly they seem to be having problems as all I get from their site is a content encoding error, “The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression”. I tried accessing the site on Thursday or Friday too and got the same.
I agree with steve, I keep getting the same problems, I recently tried one of their Online Shopping Portal or Auction Website – http://www.onsaletoday.co.za, which they advertised, I went to the site to bid and buy online and sell my items, thereafter I wanted to enter a review and let them know what I think of the site, and i got the same message Steve did. Got the same message when I tried reviewing the other sites listed there.
