What is Mowaly?

Mowaly is your mobile wallet using your mobile phone as a debit card powered by Standard Bank’s MiMoney. Apparently using mowaly to spend your mimoney (why so many names for cash?) is easy. Navigating the website isn’t. In what year do you build a site with only flash and have only one page with no real text on it indexed by search engines?

I hope cerebra did not build the site for them, it is disgusting. Yes they are doing the social media things you can find mowaly on all the following social network sites:

Mowaly on Zoopy

They’ve even got a Wikipedia entry

Great! But…I ask you “who in this day and age builds a site with only flash and ignore search engines completely?” Answer: Mowaly.

Decided not to link to their site, let them run a PPC campaign for their mobile money wallet powered by Standard Bank’s MiMoney. When you Google Mowaly you’ll find lotsa Arabic related results. I wonder what mowaly means in Arabic. Moving Forward.

Question. My understanding is that Google can index textual content in flash?
FYI, i see Prezence designed it. To be fair, I do like the site design and animation…

What’s even funnier is that that Wikipedia has deleted their entry due to “Unambiguous advertising or promotion” – ouch! How not to do social media.
On a separate note, Firefox 3.5.3 on Mac doesn’t like Disqus – the twitter signin didn’t work and I could write anything in the comment box – had to fire up Safari to comment.

I have made a wikipedia entry or two before and know how difficult it is to have new pages accepted. Whoever attempted to do it should have followed the guidelines.
On the disqus not, yeah it is a little buggy. I’m commenting on this using Firefox 3.5.3 and notice that it first reloads the page after logging in with one of the allowed accounts (twiter, facebook, openid, disqus) before allowing you to comment.
Maybe that was the glitch? Hope they sor it out.

I thought that might be the case. I initially went to mowaly.com and found nothing there, then I did a Google search and didn’t find anything there, so finally I tried coza and found it.

Yes about Mowaly the NEW idea from Standard bank.
It reminds me a lot of the Magic Money idea from Tel-e-Pay which all the Big bankssaid will never work for them in future.

I accessed this really awful webpage and wondered where to go! When the cursor is dragged over the page, you find the link, but if you dont, where to now? Its dark and shocking. Also, it would be nice to be able to see a bit more about the product. Like for eg, do these payments come off your daily swipe balance? Is it over and above? Not very informative. Na…. not going to use this
