Bing meet FailWhale, Twitter meet Google

Yesterday something weird happened. The Twitter Fail Whale resurfaced again. For those of you who do not know who or what the Twitter FailWhale is… It’s the quirky little image that is displayed when the twitter service goes down.

It appears I wasn’t the only one seeing the failwhale when trying to access twitter.

Why the sudden appearance of the twitter failwhale after weeks even months of uninterrupted twitter use? There are two reasons why twitter failed yesterday.

  1. Bing announces that they are working with those clever birds over at Twitter and now have access to the entire public Twitter feed and have a beta of Bing Twitter search for you to play with (in the US, for now).
  2. On the same day Google announces that they  have reached an agreement with Twitter to include Twitter into Google search results.

When trying to access the Bing Twitter Search I get the following:
