I advertise on both – have done fantastic business on Gumtree. Never a deal has transpired from Kalahari – same ad, same product.

Scammers are everywhere.

Yes, the tracking number is proof of delivery if there is a dispute between the two parties. kalahari.net will act as a mediator to ensure that both seller and buyer are protected.

Hi Hein. Ah, makes sense, I’m just digging deep here to see how it cuts out all the problems compared to Gumtree. What happens if a buyer claims that they never received the parcel and thus want their money back, yet the seller says they did send it? Will the tracking number then come into play as a form of proof? I like the system, it’s sounding far better than Gumtree

Hi Chris, 14 days after the seller confirms that it was shipped, yes. The buyer will receive notification (including the tracking info) and can then track the parcel via the post office/courier website.

Thanks for answering, so if I understand correctly, 14 days after the buyer says he/she has shipped it, the money is released, regardless of whether the buyer ever visits the website again?

Here’s some more detailed information: The payment is held in escrow (i.e. by kalahari.net) until either a) the buyer confirms he/she has received the goods OR b) 14 days after the item is proven to have been shipped the payment is released, as it has given the buyer enough time to respond if there are any issues. It’s compulsory for the seller to input the shipping tracking code to initiate payment, and all parcels must be sent using registered mail.

Might sound complex, but it’s super easy. Let me know if you have any more questions.

It’s definitely better than Gumtree, even if it’s purely because it’s Kalahari and not Gumtree, but I worry about that purchaser approval requirement.

I think this a great platform, especially in SA. I am looking forward to using it and seeing it grow. Some of my friends have been duped on Gumtree as well so I welcome the security.

Chris makes a good point but I don’t think it would happen that often.
