In recent years, mobile phones have become so pervasive to a point where they have become extensions to people’s lives and almost impossible to imagine life without them. Yet, it seems that the number of mobile phones brought to the market is almost directly proportional to the number of mobile phone thieves. In the UK for instance, the telegraph recently reported that according to official figures, there are about 264 cases of mobile phone theft reported to the police everyday. In the United States, according to the Associated Press, cellphone thefts in Los Angeles account for more than a quarter of all the city’s robberies has gone up 27 percent in comparison to the previous year. In South Africa, although there are no official data from the police on this issue, mobile phone theft is also a serious problem.
