WordCamps are informal, community-organized events that are put together by WordPress users like you. Everyone from casual users to core developers participate, share ideas, and get to know each other.

The History of WordCamp…

The first WordCamp was organized in San Francisco by Matt Mullenweg in 2006.

Since then, local communities around the world have organized over a hundred WordCamps, and we anticipate that number will pass a thousand within the next couple of years.

So what is a WordCamp? WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress, the free and open source personal publishing software that powers over 25 million sites on the web. WordCamps come in all different flavors, based on the local communities that produce them, but in general, WordCamps include sessions on how to use WordPress more effectively, beginning plugin and theme development, advanced techniques, security, etc. To get an idea of the types of sessions typically seen at WordCamps, check out the WordCamp channel at WordPress.tv.

WordCamps are attended by people ranging from blogging newbies to professional WordPress developers and consultants, and usually combine scheduled programming with unconference sessions and other activities. For more information on common WordCamp elements, read about what to expect at a WordCamp.

Find out how you can attend, speak at, sponsor or help with WordCamp Cape Town 2001 here

Coldplay live in Cape Town – October 2011

Cape Town

community

It’s hard to believe that I’ve been listening to Coldplay for over a decade already. A first for me was that we had to check our mobile phones upon entry, they were kept outside the cinema. A security guard said that with today’s high-pixel-count camera phones, rather cameras that also function as phones, anyone sitting in the audience could illegally record the movie. I don’t think there is anyone who hasn’t seen a cam copy. What is a Cam copy?

A copy made in a cinema using a camcorder, possibly mounted on a tripod. The sound source is the camera microphone. Cam rips can quickly appear online after the first preview or premiere of the film. The quality ranges from terrible to very good, depending on the group of persons performing the recording and the resolution of the camera used. The main disadvantage of this is the sound quality. The microphone does not only record the sound from the movie, but also the background sound in the cinema. The camera can also record movements of the audience in the theater, for instance, when someone stands up in front of the screen.

If you’re like me, and have seen all the other movies in the X-Men franchise, the new xmen movie will answer many questions you may have had Why it isn’t available in 3D remains a mystery to many but it is still worth watching. Find out how you can win a 8GB Waterproof MP3 Player, 8GB MP3/MP4 Player and a MicroSD ClipOn Mp3 Player at the end of this post.

I was recently given a gift from a friend who is very involved in the extreme sports game. If he’s not skydiving in Melkbos, he is offroading in the dunes, or paragliding off Lions Head in Cape Town.

His birthday gift to me was this awesome little extreme sport waterproof MP3 player. As a wakeboarder myself, I’ve tried quite a few other products claiming to be waterproof and I can honeslty say, this one is without a doubt the most durable and best in quality I’ve come across. I had been using a 2Gb one from a sporting chain store, but sound quality was poor and the device itself was bulky.

This 8Gb, sleek, attractive and sexy looking MP3 Player is the real deal. Audio quality is so good that I’m considering also using it for the non extreme moments such as going to the gym and just listening to music in my car.

The rubberised earpieces fit exceptionally well, audio is pristine, and the entire player is easy to use. With a dive depth of ten metres you can listen to your favourite tunes while u snorkel or even scuba dive!

Cape Town is home to a variety of different water sports, and this MP3 Player is perfect for all of them. Whether you are a swimmer, kitesurfer, surfer, body boarder, kayaker, wakeboarder or take part in any other water sport, you will add a whole new dimension to your sporting experience by making use of one of these!

Order yours today at the Namhost Shop:
There is limited stock and once sold, you will have to wait until next year before getting your hands on one of these nifty devices!

Namhost Shop are giving away all three of these MP3 players to one of the readers of Web AddiCT(s); The following are up for grabs:
8GB Waterproof MP3 Player

MP3 Player

100% Waterproof (Earphones and Player)

USB charger and data copy cable with wall plug

USB charger and data copy cable with wall plug

8GB MP3/MP4 Player

MicroSD ClipOn Mp3 Player

To win all 3 of these media players and have them delivered to you in time for Christmas simply comment below telling us how you’d use the 8GB Waterproof MP3 player.
