The Police use MXit to catch a criminal!

MXit is a Tool, You’re able to chat on MXit with your friends, MXit for business, for not having to send an SMS again. Heck if you’re a paedophile you can even use it too. Like a 33 year old man from Gauteng did, he kidnapped a 16 year olde girl who he lured via MXit.

The police are adapting to the changing technology trends and have used MXit to catch him too. 🙂

The girl told detectives that she had met the man on MXit. Using this information, the police went through her cellphone records and a sting operation was put into place using MXit. A detective went on to the service and contacted the man, pretending to be a teenage girl.

After a series of back-and-forth text messages, detectives were able to get the man to supposedly meet the teenage girl at a certain place in Randfontein on Monday. When he arrived, they pounced on him and arrested him.

This might be the most cost effective police case on record as there was no need to make as many cellular calls as The South African Police usually would. The police are are starting to use MXit too.

While most of the papers will be focussing on how a teenager was kidnapped (and blame MXit) I’d like to draw your attention to how MXit was used to solve a criminal investigation at the fraction fo the cost of an SMS.
