Thabo Mbeki says Africa(n Digerati) will solve its problems
Thabo Mbeki, the South African president, says that while Africa is determined to solve its own problems, the continent cannot allow wrong things to be done in the name of national sovereignty.
Briefing an international panel at the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos, President Mbeki said it was clear that Africa could not do it all on its own and the critical matter to be addressed was poverty and underdevelopment.
Outside the conference hall the South African presence was certainly eye catching – but it was inside that President Mbeki really pulled the crowds. His message was clear: while Africa is determined to deal with security issues and conflict on the continent, it is vital that the underlying problems of poverty and underdevelopment are tackled.
