If you we’re at the 27 Geek dinner last night, this is old news for you.

Cape Town based, incuBeta founder, Vinny Lingham announced last night that he is stepping down from incuBeta to focus on startups.

On a final note, in addition to Synthasite, I have setup a small Venture Capital fund for Cape Town based startups, called Lingham Capital (no site just yet), and I will aim to assist them with small amounts of seed capital and expertise in building their businesses, all of which will need to be globally focused in the medium term. I do not intend on investing in more than 5 startups at any one time, including Synthasite.

Lingham Capital has been dubbed VC 2.0 by the CEO of Skyrove Wifi Hotspots, Henk Kleynhans who is also the first Cape Town based startup company Lingham Captial has invested in.

I’m delighted to announce that Skyrove has acquired its first round of Venture Capital from ‘VC 2.0’ firm, Lingham Capital.

Vinny Lingham has the magic ingredients to become a successful Venture Capitalist. He’s an entrepreneur who’s been there, done that. He’s investing his own money and, more importatly, his own time/bandwidth into the handful of startups he’s funding! (For now Skyrove and Synthasite) He’s not managing other people’s money nor is he having someone else manage his. He’s made a commitment not to invest in more companies than in which he could play an active role.

Congrats to Skyrove on acquiring some Vinny VC. Believe the Vinny Lingham insight is much more valuable than any amount of Venture Capital. Getting both Vinny Lingham’s insight & venture Capital without having to leave Cape Town is like killing 3 birds with one stone.

Here’s to a mountain overlooking Silicon Valley.
