777 Memes
It’s nearly 4 days till the 7th July 2007, or 07/07/2007, and so far I’ve seen two 777 initiatives.
The one I found on digg, on the luck of seven.
on the luck of seven is an open-source, around the world project by noel hidalgo, a new york city based activist, organizer, blogger, barcamper and coworker.
for seven months, he will traverse the seven continents, dive into the seven oceans, and attempt to visit the seven ancient wonders of the world. using a new media voodo
The other I found announced on SABC News, the New 7 Wonders of the World.
The New7Wonders Foundation, which is the body behind the New7Wonders campaign, has the express aim of documenting, maintaining, restoring and reconstructing world heritage under the motto: “Our Heritage is our Future”.
The New7Wonders Foundation calls on all citizens of the world to support it. Through film, television, the Internet and books, people shall be alerted to the destruction of nature and the decay of our man-made heritage. Monuments in jeopardy, perhaps in a dangerous state of decay, can be saved by publicizing their beauty and highlighting their plight to the international community.
…
The final round of voting for the New 7 Wonders will continue through the first half of 2007. Then, on July 7, 2007 -07.07.07, the dream of the N7W initiators will become a reality as the globe joins together to celebrate the New 7 Wonders of the World, as chosen by the world’s population using modern communications technology.
Now, I have two thoughts.
- Firstly, I don’t see any South African monument shortlisted as one of the possible New 7 Wonders of the World. How come? Can’t anybody think of something in South Africa that could be considered a wonder of the world? Shouldn’t we be doing something about that?
- And secondly, what other 777 campaignes have you heard of?
