Linux alternative to Microsoft Surface enroute
Miguel blogged about Microsoft’s Surface multi-touch computer interface. Found out about the Linux alternative beeing called MPX or Multi-Pojnter X, on Tectonic Open Source news, that is still in the early phases of development.
Some interesting bits…
The software is still in development and there are a ton of bugs to fix according to Hutterer. However, it will give you a good idea about what you will be able to do.”
Hutterer has made things really interesting by connecting an MPX-enabled Linux system to Mitsubishi Electric’s DiamondTouch display table. Like Microsoft Surface, the DiamondTouch is also a multi-user, touch-and-gesture-activated surface.
While the DiamondTouch employs a different technology to Microsoft’s TouchLight, the final result is even better because the MPX-DiamondTouch combination actually recognises four different unique users.
Microsoft Surface and Jeff Han’s developments allow multiple users to interact with it, but they don’t recognise them as unique yet.
