The MIH SWAT team your Web AddiCT currently wwworks with have recently updated Feedalizr to allow you just to update you Facebook Status from the desktop and see all your friends Facebook staus updates. Kinda like turning Facebook friends statuses it into a twitter.

So if you want to only see your friends Facebook Updates without the pics and other irritating/time consuming apps give this desktop application a whirl.
