Use no hurtful deceit; think innocently and justly and, if you speak, speak accordingly – Benjamin Franklin.

If it wasn’t for social media would you know anything about Autism? Would you know the guy Gerhard Pieterse behind the jail4bail tweets? Would you have written that post?

Lets look at the tone this article, Social Media the power and the pain, was written in. Does Nicole Capper sound a bit sour cos a PR campaign she worked so hard on(respect) got her such a little attention- All the geeks were talking social media and she never got a mention?

With a one dimensional view, to me it sounds like she says, ‘Social Media, screw you. Traditional PR woohoo!’ Very unlike the open-minded communication she flaunts. When it comes to online reputation it might haunt. I wouldn’t blame her too. We were bogging about blogging, boo.

Think I’ve typed enough. Read this post for more in depth stuff.

Here is a little factoid:

The Jail4bail campaign never reached the R 1 000 000 mark but did manage to raise a further R 150 000 ($15 199.05) in 14 days, an average of R 10 714 ($1 085.61) per day. A 29% increase in the daily average compared to the 60 days prior to using feedalizr and the associated social media services.

What do you think? Does social media have no power or have some PRs gone sour?

[update]
It appears I missed the point of the article written by Nicole Capper. It was not to highlight that she only measured social media contributions by entries to the VUKA SMS competition but to…

the fact that if online communities become passionate about a campaign – whether you’ve intended for it to happen or not – integration of messaging and tracking communication is essential.
Budgeting for those hours is vital.

With this knowledge intact, we approached the next such campaign with the knowledge that the budget needs to be accommodated by client and that client education in terms of the importance of an integrated campaign is vital.

Your Web AddiCT was wrong, the article by Nicole Capper was not about what I thought and I do apologize.

[/update]

Can we get someone outside the PR or social media industries to do a proper measurement of the jail4Bail campaign please.
