Exactly Feedburner, now Google Feedburner, allows you to track your RSS subscribers. That is not all Feedburner allows you to do with your RSS.
With Feedburner you can Analyze, Monetize, Optimize & Publicize your RSS feed.
- Analyze your RSS feed: Track how many people are subscribed to your RSS feed, what method they are using to consume your feed (Bloglines. Google Reader, email etc.) and with which blog posts they are actually clicking on and reading.
- Publicize your RSS feed: A pretty useless point, as RSS is a way to publish your content and can be done with or without feedburner.
- Optimize your RSS feed: This ensures your feed is properly formatted and also allows you to add various widgets to the end of your feed like digg this, add to delicious, add a comment, add to muti.co.za and hundreds of others.
- Monetize your RSS feed: The only option available is Google AdSense for RSS. I’m trying out this for of advertising but am not sure about this. If you are smart enough to use RSS and have taken the time to subscribe to a feed should advertising really be present? There are other ways to make money blogging.
If you use WordPress as your blogging platform of choice I would suggest installing the FeedSmith plugin to assist you with redirecting all your RSS feeds to your Feedbruner account. For more information on tracking your RSS subscribers and maybe making some money in the process visit the Feedburner website.
