  • For me, the “Up to three customisable home screens” is the best feature, I currently have the Nokua N97 and being able to access my most used apps directly from the home screen is fantastic, then be able to adjust those ‘home screens’ easily makes it easier to access things in one swipe. I’d love to upgrade from my N97, which I absolutely love!

  • Unified home screen access to Facebook and Twitter through Ovi by Nokia Social client – for us social media addicts… and thanks for not creating RT spam.

  • marcus

Dolby Digital Plus surround sound when you play it with a home theatre system

Such a pity this phone does not run on Android …

    • Or even that Andriod does not run on this phone.

      • Retief Devilliers

OK, thanks Francois, that’s obviously what I meant. πŸ˜‰
In the larger scheme of things I think Nokia’s Symbian^3 will have to be a major jump forward, supported by a very well stocked and supported OVI store, in order not to lose the smartphone race against Android.

        • I am sure there will be a Android ROM out for this phone soon .. N900 has one already ..

          • Louispires

N8 is nothing compared to my N900!!

  • Video ring tones

  • Video ring tones. Never thought of this as something that is necessary, but could be quite fun.

  • 12 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, with 5.9 mm lens (equivalent to 28mm in 35mm film format), f/2.8 (which is FAST), white balance, scene mode, exposure compensation, colour tone, viewfinder framing grid, sharpness, contrast, flash control, light sensitivity (ISO), self-timer, face detection.
This isn’t a phone. This is an imaging device! iPad convenience, photographic portability.
What would I do with the Nokia N8. One answer. I would redefine the lmits of MOBILOGRAPHY!

  • Bradley

I love the fact that it has a capacitive touch-screen. From what I’ve seen, it requires a much lighter touch than previous Nokia touch-screen devices and now also supports multi-touch interaction.

  • Chris

The HDMI connectivity will allow me to use the N8 as a virtual media and this can be done in HD with Dolby Digital sound πŸ™‚

  • Corneille Rocher

    Supports USB mouse and keyboard!

  • Piesang

Lots of phone have more or less the same features. But the best feature is Symbian^3. With the N8 running Symbian^3 the others like iOS and Android can really try to bring it on.

  • Wendyvantonder

The Nokia N8 provides hardware acceleration, which will mean awesome rendering and high frame rates for applications that are graphics intensive. As a result, the Nokia N8 will offer a brilliant gaming experience, effectively making it a mobile gaming console, over and above it’s multimedia and other capabilities.

  • Clinton

    Internal memory: 16 GB
MicroSD memory card slot, hot swappable, up to 32 GB

  • The N8 supports Flash enabled websites with Flash Lite 4.. now you can really surf the web from your Nokia πŸ™‚

  • 3D Graphics HW accelerator ftw! Portable gaming as it should be.

  • SPerelson

It has two microphones – one for noise cancellation. Now that is cool.

  • The N8 is made of 100% recyclable materials. So in a couple years time you can feel good when you hand your phone in to be recycled, knowing you saved the environment.

Number 1 feature – Ultimately is the 50 hours of music playback. yep 50 hours. Couple that with usb-on-the-go. Friends bring their flash drive. Play the music from the flash drive via the build in fm-transmitter to a massive hi-fi. That while sitting next to the braai vleis fire. Schuffel through loads of music while doing the meat on the fire and having a party. Proberly not 50 hours with the fm transmiter and usb on the go – but 30 hour will even do. PEOPLE BRING YOUR CHOP AND YOUR DOP, i’ve got the nokia n8 and a big hi-fi and loads of braavleis hout!

    • Elana

I think it’s a great “Number 1 feature”!!! Just a pitty that the phone won’t be avalible on Heritage Day… It is after all a BRAAI day. :o)

  • Duncan

The Nokia N8 offers up to 3 hours and 20 minutes of video capture or 7 hours of video playback (6 over HDMI) thanks to the 1200mAh battery. The talk time is impressive too – 12 hours, and the battery will last for 50 hours of music playback.

  • Duncan

The Nokia N8 is connectivity champ – it is a true globetrotter with quad-band GSM/EDGE and five-band 3G. Yep, five bands – 850/900/1700/1900/2100. It has Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1, GPS with A-GPS (plus other positioning methods), microUSB with USB On-the-go and a built-in FM transmitter. Having mentioned GPS, the N8 will of course come with Ovi Maps for free voice-guided navigation.

  • GPS with A-GPS support and Ovi Maps 3.0 is a feature I will use on a daily basis!

The 12Mp camera is obviously full of rather interesting features! Carl Zeiss lenses have become my lens of choice over the years. Add to this the 1/1.83” sensor size, ND filter, geo-tagging, face and smile detection, and you have quite the package!

I also can’t wait to try this new “Plug and Touch” feature which turns any TV into a touchscreen! Brilliant!

  • hi.

    thx for this game πŸ˜€

i’ve watched the N8 long time during the development.
I use my n900 and i’m very happy with it.

The N8 with its powerfull ARM 11 processor seems to be a realy hard opponent for it πŸ˜€ running on 680MHz is quit fast for multithreading! and it’s not the top of the ladder πŸ˜‰ overclocking can bring it easy to over 1ghz i think πŸ˜€

  • hyper focal distance – objects placed between roughly 60cm and infinity will appear sharply

  • Shoni N

The video editing features offer a story board for putting together clips, titles and transitions in a timeline

  • Fathima K

with a 3.5″ screen. video calling is gona b awesome!!!!

  • The best feature is actually the combination of 2 features: The Full HD camera combined with Web Connectivity literally means you could live 14000 kms away from civilisation and your ouma wouldn’t miss your baby girls first steps – she could have a 1st birthday party with all your family in her lounge and you could sit in the bush with your cupcakes and party hat and it would almost be like having them with you. Except, there’d be no cheek-pinching, and you could have ‘technical difficulties’ when Aunt Sally drank too much grown-up punch and wanted to chat about your love life πŸ™‚

  • Ted R

Video stabilization means crisp, watchable recordings!

  • ME Mabusela

THE N8 IS THE MOST FLEXIABLE GAGDET THAT IS SO FLEXIBLE AND TO OF ITS RANGE AND WITH 12 MEGA PIXEL MAKING PICTURE TO HAVE THE SENCE OF MOVEMENT AND TAKING THEM TO NEXT LEVEL YOU HAVE TO LOVE THE TOOL ITS LIKE IT BEING COMPARED TO A STUDENT LIFE”ALWAYS FLEXIBLE” ME MABUSELA

  • MorneB

O my word, with up to 50 hours of music in Dolby Digital Plus this phone is going to keep my party going!!!

  • Jono

I’ve always kept the out-of-the-box plastic screen covers on my previous Nokias so I’m glad to see the Nokia N8 will sport the scratch resistant Gorilla Glass

  • 12 MP sensor and Carl Zeiss optics, Clearly picks out the bad apple amongst the best in the market

  • ItsMe

The best feature would be that it it new and exiting, yet old and reliable.

Symbian 3 combines a host of new and exiting features, but for people who have used previous Nokia devices, the phone will have a familiar feel to it.

Simple to use, easy to get used to

  • Lindi

I love the new interface for switching between different applications. Looks very slick and intuitive.

  • Etienne

    USB on the go
    12 MP camera
    HDMI
    Multiple home screens
    Bluetooth 3.0
    HD Video recording

  • Flash Lite 4.0 . All because the iPhone does not have flash. How can a phone not have flash (yet) … little flash games = money = win win.

  • John

Saw a vid on the web where you can turn your LCD TV into a touch screen using the camera and HDMI cable on the N8 . Wow, the possibilities are endless for that sort of app. Making mobile presentations far more accessable

  • marcos del rosario

the nokia n8 comes with a 12 megapixels camera with carl zeiss optics and the larger image sensor on a mobile phone 1/1.83, xenon flash and a secondary camera for video calls

You can access CNN, which can help you stay up to date with all the latest news, and if you’re ever stuck somewhere without something to do, there’s always the internet. You’re able to browse Youtube videos to amuse yourself, and there’s the Touch UI which you can use to play games.

Plug in your headphones and you can browse through your music, or just simply listen to your favourite radio station. And who needs a Garmin or TomTom when you have GPS on your Nokia, voice-guided and free πŸ™‚

  • Smawiyoo

The Nokia N8 has A Magnetic North/ Magetic XYZ Sensor , with the GPS sensor it makes for a tech savvy Geo Caching Game Out in the wild karoo on safari where little road mapping and guidance data exists. So you either know where your going or go old school with a N8 for the ultimate compass.

  • Lucas LΓΆtter

Well I would enjoy the 12 Mega pixel camera with a Carl Zeiss lens, as many of you do not yet know Carl Zeiss has been top of the market for lenses since 1934 in our South Africa and has been around even longer in Europe. This lens providing a resolution of 4000×3000 (and has a xenon flash) is the biggest yet seen by a phone and I am sure will not dissapoint!

  • Zagoma

The N8 has a built-in graphics processor, which, combined with its accelerometer, means that 3D games don’t just look good, even when shown on a large HDTV, they’re extremely intuitive to play as well.

  • Zagoma

Video on the N8 is the best in class. Sure, other phones can record video at 720p, but not all of them can play it back complete with 5.1 Dolby surround sound over an HDMI cable. The N8 can.

  • Zagoma

Another nice touch with Symbian^3 is the visual multitasking panel that appears when you hold down the homescreen button. This feature allows you to see a decent sized snapshot of all the apps that you have open on your device. N8 ROCKS !

  • Zagoma

Without any doubt, the phone’s best feature is its 12-megapixel camera with 28mm wide-angle lens that can shoot video in high-definition at a resolution of 720p and at 25 frames per second. The quality of the camera is superb.

  • Zagoma

Another awesome Feature Actually -with a micro USB to USB connector allowing you to plug in a USB thumb drive or even an external hard drive and watch movies and other multimedia content on your TV or monitor. In other words, the N8 doubles as a rudimentary home entertainment system.

  • Ryan

    Among other things mentioned above….
