2012 SA Blog Awards 👐 Web AddiCT 🇿🇦

Things have been quiet on the SA Blog Awards front until last night.

The public vote phase has just begun and will run from 19 Dec 2012 until 28 Dec 2012 at 23:59.

If you received an email yesterday, that means your blog has been nominated or you nominated yourself. That embed code will automatically place a VOTE badge on your blog.

When your readers click on the VOTE badge, they will be directed to the SA Blog Awards website. Their vote for your blog will automatically be entered. Should your blog be in more than one category, the VOTER may choose to vote for you in both categories.

Voters will be sent a confirmation email, which they will have to respond to in order to confirm their vote. The process allows them to vote for only one blog per category. Should your voter decide to vote for another blog in the same category you will lose the original vote, as their new vote will override the initial vote.

It’s empty promise time from many South African bloggers again pimping for votes. I wonder, if winning an SA Blog Award has improved any of the winner’s blogging. I’m going to stick on the vote for me badge and see what happens.

The SA Blog Awards really needs a big overhaul. I think the first step to success is to have a well-known and successful blogger running the event, the helm needs to be passionate about the medium. At the moment I can’t help but think that it is no longer about the actual blogging and bloggers, but rather just a medium for some brands to advertise themselves. I hurt a little inside every time I think about it.

I couldn’t agree with you more Chris. The question should be who that blogger is going to be that brings back interests of bloggers to the SA Blog Awards.

I totally agree with most of the points you raised Chris. I remember when we were in the running as Cape Town Tourism in 2010 how unimpressed I was in how the event was run.

The awards should be run by prominent bloggers, who really do care about blogging in South Africa. I highlight the South African aspect, as it needs to come through more strongly. I sometimes still get that sense that the awards are viewed as “for capetonians by capetonians”
To be honest, I dont see how JPNaude brought any added value to the awards other than having Evox as a sponsor.

My only added suggestion is that the awards be run by a team and not a single personality, in this way the process can be more representative and not viewed as biased.
